Preparing the bouquet

Before placing the peonies in your vase, remove any leaves that touch the water. This prevents the proliferation of bacterias that can affect the longevity of the flowers. Next, cut about 2 to 3 centimetres off the base of the stems at an angle, to facilitate water absorption. Use a sharp knife or clean pruning shears to do this, so as not to crush the stems as you cut them.

Choose the right vase and location

Choose a clean vase filled with fresh water. Peonies like a cool spot, away from direct sunlight and draughts. Try to keep them as far away as possible from your fruit basket, as fruit gives off ethylene, a gas that accelerates flower ripening and wilting.

Change the water regularly

To keep your peonies fresh, change the water in the vase every two days. Before each change, rinse the vase thoroughly to remove bacterias and accumulated deposits. Trim the stems a little each time you change the water.

Avoid extreme temperatures

Peonies do not like intense cold or high temperatures. Keep them away from cold draughts and heat sources such as radiators. A mild room temperature will help prolong the life of your bouquet.

Remove wilted flowers

Regularly remove wilted flowers from your bouquet of peonies. This will allow the other flower buds to bloom to their full potential and prolong the overall life of your bouquet.
